Oooo, goody! Rebates!

So, the federal government is sending each and everyone of us a $600 rebate. Cool, right? What will you do with yours? Well… you might want to think long and hard about that before you run out and spend it… because…

If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, the money will go to China.

If we spend it on gasoline it will go to the Arabs.

If we purchase a computer it will go to India.

If we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala.

If we purchase a good car it will go to Japan.

If we purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan.

And none of it will help the American economy.

The only way to keep that money here at home is to buy prostitutes, weed, beer, cigarettes, whiskey, and tattoos, since these are the only products still produced here in the states.

  • This is so sad but more and more we live in a WORLD economy and what affects one corner of the world affects us. Makes you care a whole lot more about how others are faring, doesn’t it?

  • Linda,
You’re so right. And I’m all for a world economy, as long as it is indeed a WORLD economy. To lift one economy by sacrificing another does not make sense to me. And for our government to say they’re giving us this rebate to stimulate the American economy when that’s the last thing it will do… well… that kind of ‘misleading’ is so typical of this administration that I shouldn’t be surprised. Alas…

  • Logic? ;-> Are we expecting logic from government? ;-> Especially this administration? ;->

  • ROFL. Sad but true.

Or you could spend it at a local business, many of which are hurting. Splurge on a nice dinner at a good restaurant, have a day of beauty – get your hair and nails done. I know my hairdresser has been having a rough time lately. Her business is down. Or buy books from a US publisher, if you can still find one. 🙁

Or pay down your credit cards or put the rebate check in your savings account. Or start a college fund for the kids.

  • Rhonda,
You’re right, too. Logic from government in general would be an amazing thing, wouldn’t it?

    Lyndi,
okay… now… you’re ruining my rant. 😉 I love the thought of patronizing local businesses with the rebates. How wonderful if everyone put some of that money back into their own communities. We’ll actually use part of ours for our South Carolina vacation. 🙂

  • Great post! How about if I spend it all on books written by friends?

  • Yeah, Barrie! Excellent idea! Love it.

  • You go Debbie!
